Carlsberg Malaysia Introduces ChongQing Beer, Bringing Decades of Chinese Brewing Heritage to Malaysian Consumers

Rooted in nearly seven decades of Chinese brewing heritage, ChongQing Beer has officially arrived in Malaysia, introducing a distinctive Chinese lager inspired by one of China’s most iconic culinary cultures. Born in Chongqing and brewed since 1958, this smooth and easy-drinking lager is specially crafted to elevate shared dining experiences, offering Malaysian consumers a refreshing beer choice made for moments of togetherness around the table.

Crafted as a refreshing and easy-drinking lager, ChongQing Beer delivers a smooth and balanced taste profile with 3.8% ABV, making it ideal for long meals and casual social gatherings. Available in 490ml cans, it offers an approachable and affordable choice for everyday occasions, naturally complementing conversations and shared dining experiences.

The brand’s visual identity pays homage to its heritage, featuring a hotpot-inspired logo alongside a striking red and gold colour palette that represents warmth, passion, and togetherness — values deeply rooted in Chongqing’s culture and reflected in the beer’s role of bringing people together.

Named after its city of origin, ChongQing Beer takes inspiration from Chongqing — a dynamic “8-dimensional” city set among mountainous landscapes, celebrated for its bold flavours, fiery cuisine, and vibrant social dining culture. Crafted to pair seamlessly with Chinese cuisine and hotpot, the beer embodies the warmth and communal spirit that define Chongqing’s food culture, bringing an authentic taste of the city’s shared traditions to dining tables everywhere.
 
Anchoring ChongQing Beer’s expansion into Malaysia is a deep sense of pride and brewing craftsmanship. “Having started my brewing journey with ChongQing Beer in its hometown, I am incredibly proud to now brew this iconic beer here in Shah Alam, Malaysia,” shared Roger Li, brewmaster and the first Asian Supply Chain Director of Carlsberg Malaysia. “What matters most to us is preserving its original character — refreshing, smooth, and easy-drinking — so the taste remains familiar to those who know and love ChongQing,” he added.

ChongQing Beer will be available at 99 Speedmart outlets nationwide from June 2026 onwards, offering Malaysian consumers a refreshing lager with authentic Chinese heritage, crafted to complement lively meals and everyday moments shared with friends.
